A New Era for African Football: Al-Ahly’s Landmark Stadium

Al-Ahly Football Club is a famous team in Africa and the Middle East. For over 30 years, they dreamed of having their stadium. Now, with the help of Gensler, El Qalaa El Hamraa, and Buro Happold, this dream is coming true. They are building a new, world-class stadium in Cairo, Egypt.

The new stadium will have 42,000 seats. It will be near the freeway that connects Cairo and Alexandria, close to the Sphinx International Airport. One special feature of the stadium is its large structural arch. This arch makes the stadium easy to recognize from far away.

To overcome height restrictions imposed by flight paths, Gensler created a sunken pitch, partially below ground level. This design leverages the earth’s natural temperature to cool the stadium, offering an energy-efficient solution.

The stadium will feature double-tiered stands on the west, north, and south sides, bringing fans closer to the action. Exclusive areas like “The Field VIP” offer premium perks: gourmet food, tunnel views, and prime seats.

Outside the stadium, there will be a lively area called the ‘Owners Plaza.’ This space can hold up to 30,000 people. It will have social spots, a team shop, cafés, and the Al-Ahly Museum. This plaza will welcome fans and offer many things to do before and after games.

At night, the stadium will light up with a digital facade and illuminated roof. The roof will make it a shining landmark in Cairo’s skyline. The lights can show different images and messages, keeping the look fresh and exciting. The Al-Ahly Stadium is more than just a place for football. It will be part of a larger sports city. This area will include a university, hospital, and mosque. The goal is to boost tourism and help the local economy by hosting various events and attracting visitors year-round.
